I've just become political active... take that you apathetic cog.... that's me talking to myself again... don't get defensive.
This whole voting fraud thing has been bugging me. Beyond any partisan issue. I've just never thought that our voting system is the best that it could be. I believe that there are crucial faults in the over all approach, and that those fissures have served as handholds for corruption. Not just from the neo-cons, but from anyone with wealth, influence, and something to gain.
And today there is a chance to force this issue out of it's cave and into the light, a little. It would only take one Senator to stand up in response to the requests of the congress, and then the statements begin. It won't change the election. Nobody thinks that it will.
But there were problems with the vote. There were votes that weren't counted, there were voices that weren't heard. There were inner city voters that had to wait 10 hours in the rain to vote. There was a Hispanic voter who waited 10 hours, was directed to the wrong table, and then had his vote thrown out. There are so many stories about people who weren't allowed to vote. What disturbs me is that there is a pattern. This time it turned out to be almost perfectly along democrat republican lines. But I don't think it's really a partisan issue. I think that the dem/rep line just happens to currently over-lay class/wealth lines.
It was the poor, the marginalized, the middle and lower class that are telling these stories. It is their voices that are being muffled.
And that is not just.
And those that are belittling it by implying that it is a partisan issue are not serving this country or the principles it is founded on.
---look at me, I'm full of rhetoric too! See anyone can do it!
anyway, I wrote to Feingold, here's what I said (I can't take credit, I found most of the letter online, just changed it a little)
"Dear Senator Feingold
Oath of Office
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
Over the past four years the Federal and Local election systems have been manipulated and subjected to an illegal and specific strategy to override the will of the people.
WE THE PEOPLE, citizens of the United States, not democrat, not republican, not independent, can tolerate our way of governance to be derailed and stolen by a few.
The time is now to affirm your oath in support of the CONSTITUTION of the Unites States of America.
Please stand up tomorrow and put your voice on the record, rebuke the results of the election.
The AMERICAN people deserve no less."
Feingold didn't stand up. But Barbara Boxer did. And now the issues will be pushed out into the light. For 2 hours at least. Then the electoral vote continues. But maybe, just maybe, it will start something rolling. Maybe...
Here's what White House spokesman Scott McClellan said
I think the American people expect members of Congress to work together and move forward on the real priorities facing this country, instead of engaging in conspiracy theories and rehashing issues that were settled long ago.
I couldn't agree more. I do expect members of congress to move forward and focus on some of the real issues facing this country. This country of working men and women. This country that I'm proud to live in because every man and woman has an equal voice regardless of race, sex, or social status. And if that precept is in danger, isn't that a real issue that we should face? If voices are being silenced isn't the system flawed? And if the very system that our nation is based on is flawed.... is that a real issue Mr McClellan?
This should be partisan. I can honestly say that if the entire situation was flipped I would still want this issue discussed.
But watch now, watch the right wing reaction.... Watch the corporate America reaction.....
are there any other kind really?
